CAFE SPORTSTER

Phase 1 of the Sportster:
Where others see trash we see treasure. We wanted a cafe sporty on the cheap so we set about finding a crashed bike we could build as budget-minded as possible. We started with the bars or lack of them, by adding clip ons, removed all the junk on top of the triples, and prototyped a cool intrument cluster and headlight relocation piece that moves the headlight and gauges down. We also prototyped a key and coil relocation piece to get rid of all the plastic under the gas tank. We then threw on her all the RSD product we had, fixed the tank, chopped the rear fender and painted her on the cheap. For under 10K we brought her back to life and she's better than ever.

Johnny Cash bike

Customer Bike Build

As told by Julian Grindall, February 2010

Inspiration. What inspires us to do things in life?

"For me & the creation of a Johnny Cash tribute bike was quiet simple, the love of motorcycles especially Harley-Davidson and the music of an iconic performer & song writer.

The title of the bike “Get Rhythm” was an obvious choice. This great song of Johnnies describing the rhythm of the shoe shine boy betting the blues and the rhythm of the Harley V twin, perfect.

The challenge was to depict this theme respecting the memory of a man that was very understated. This was skilfully achieved from a design brief discussed with Shaw Speed and Custom Shop who interpreted the dream into a world class custom bike using Roland Sands Design components, the immense skill of Tom Fuller and the team from (Image Design Custom) who painted the tins and created the awesome artwork, and Neil Sefton (Shaw Speed and Custom Shop) who engineered and built the bike.

Well done to the Shaw Speed Shop team, my son Tom and I will ride and show this bike with great pride."

The Johnny Cash bike is based on a 2004 Nightrain, with PM wheels and PM Phatail kit, RSD covers, and handlebars and PM handlebar switchgear and master cylinders, mid mount PM controls, CSC headlight and air filter, RSD Vintage seat and gas tank, Shaw signature round oil bag, braided lines internal throttle the list goes on lowered 3.5 inches front and 2 inches rear,
Image Design custom painted the project and there is also a rear light in the back which illuminates with the ignition on.

No Regrets Highlight

NO Regrets is the cover bike on Ohlins Webpage for Motorcycles.

We were looking for suspension for our latest project, a punk, raced out XR 1200 when we ran across a photo on the cover of the OHLINS suspension page with No Regrets. This is the #1 suspension company in the world and we have used a ton of their products. We think it’s pretty neat that Ohlins used our bike so prominently to represent their motorcycle suspension next to the likes of Factory Moto GP and Motocross Machines. Check out their website at www.ohlins.com

RSD loves Japan

We had a great time in Japan with the Crew from Mooneyes. Jun, Rodney and myself stretched our legs in the land of the rising sun and saw some beautiful scenery as well as great Mooneyes show in Yokohama. The bike scene is cracking over there so if you haven’t experienced a Mooneye’s show get your ticket and make the jump across the pond. Great bikes and the level of style is way above what’s being done in the states, it was inspiring. There were some cool bikes with RSD product lurking in the crowd as well. It’s nice to see our stuff so far away from home.

It's raining shovels!

Here in Sunny Southern California we have grown accustomed to warm weather and clear sky's. This past week however we've received multiple tornado warnings, flash floods, strong winds and....flying shovels?

That's right! RSD's Product Specialist, Cameron Brewer, caught a Razor Back Spade shovel with his 2005 E350 Ford Van while driving on the 91 freeway in Corona.

It Could Have Been the End for Old Sweet Cameron.
